Chocolate Chip Cookies

Baked goodies make a lovely present for families and friends especially during the Christmas season. Already armed with my newly bought baking tools, I felt I was ready to try baking on my own. So on the day of our annual company party, just 3 days before Christmas, I finally baked my first chocolate chip cookie to give out to my boss and some of my colleagues.

Recipes says to preheat oven to 350°F. Here in the Philippines, Celsius is more commonly used so I did some conversion. (350 - 32) * 5 /9 =  176.66°C

I hanged an oven thermometer on the middle rack so I can monitor the temperature when I'm baking.

Now it was time to light the gas oven. My oven doesn't have an electronic ignition feature so I had to light it manually. I reviewed the oven manual a few times just to make sure I'm doing the right thing.  The knob is a bit hard to turn since my oven is new. By the time I turned it, the flame on the match sticks had already died out. For safety measures, I had to turn it off and wait for a couple of minutes before I try it again. 7 match sticks and a bucket of sweat after, I finally did it. Whew!

Then I went back to the table to prepare my ingredients.

Flour, Baking Powder, Baking Soda, Salt. Mix!

Sugars go in a separate bowl. Mix together!

Pour the melted butter on the sugar mixture. Cream! (I melted the butter using a microwave oven. Yes, I'm that lazy.) Add the eggs, one at a time.

Add vanilla.

Follow with glucose.

I attempted to use my electric hand mixer but contrary to what I expected, it couldn't work as slow as the Kitchen Aid stand mixer we used in class.  Even on level 1 speed, the mixer turned so fast that my ingredients started to splat on the wall.

And so I resorted to hand mixing. Gah!

Throw in the flour mixture, in parts.

Fold the batter until the color is even.

Add the chocolate chips.

Fold again!

Drop scooped cookie doughs on a medium sized baking sheet lined with parchment paper. (Don't forget to grease). 12 cookies per sheet.

Bake for 7-10 minutes.

crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside

    1. I tried using my whisk but when the batter starts to get sticky, some of it get stuck in the whisk. I'm considering to buy a better one.
