Bohol-Cebu Chronicles: Alona Tropical Beach Resort

Panglao Island in Bohol possesses some of the best beaches in the Philippines and one of them is Alona Beach. Formerly known as Tawala Beach, it was later changed to Alona, named after Alona Alegre, a sexy star in the 70s.

We spent the first half of our 6 day management team planning in Panglao Island and we were lucky enough to secure a last minute booking at one of the beachfront resorts along Alona Beach - the Alona Tropical Beach Resort.

Alona Beach
Our trip was scheduled in the first week of March and I only started looking for hotels a month before our trip. Since it was approaching summer, the good ones have already been fully booked even in the Dumaluan Beach area. I was so worried then that we might not get a decent accommodation. I've been turned down by around 5 hotels already.  We barely had a week before we leave for Bohol, when I found out about Alona Tropical Beach Resort. The resort is not listed on popular booking sites such as Agoda and Asiarooms so I had to send them an email to inquire.  Luckily they still have a lot of available rooms so I reserved a deluxe aircon room and a poolside suite for a group of 6 for 3 nights. We paid the reservation fee through bank deposit.

On the day of our arrival, we were picked up by our hired van at Tagbilaran Airport. We passed by the ferry terminal to buy our tickets for Cebu then went straight to Panglao.

Reception

We were greeted by friendly staff when we arrived at the resort. The reception staff spoke English very well. I gave them my name and after a few minutes we were handed down our keys.

The Poolside Suite is 5,500 / night and can accommodate up to 4 guests. It has one big room with 2 queen sized beds, a living room with flat screen TV, a dining area with refrigerator, and big toilet and bath.

The Deluxe Aircon Room is at 2,980 / night which can accommodate 2 guests.  It has 2 single beds, a small TV and small toilet and bath. The room assigned to us is also a few steps away from the pool area. I didn't get to take a picture of the room but I assure you they look the same as the pictures on their website.

By lunch time, we headed down to the resort's restaurant which offers a great view of the beach.

There are other restaurants nearby but since we're already hungry, we opted to try Baybayon.

After lunch, we took a stroll around the resort to check out the other amenities.

The resort also has a dive center.

The 2-storey house near the lobby houses the owner's antique collection.

  1. Hey,

Great post. The hotel looks like a real find good work :)

I have informed the team that we don't have this hotel on our website and the fact that we have limited choice in this area so your feedback and mention was very much appreciated.

    Keep up the great blog!

    Ryan
