EBPS Day 4: It's a Piece of Cake
With trembling hands, I put the ingredients one after the other in the mixer. I had to do it solo with Chef Heny's eyes trained on me. Good thing the recipe I picked out was the simplest, I think. Angel Food Cake required only mixing and folding. But still, I was so nervous while doing it. I have yet to perfect my folding skills. "Mag-practice sa bahay ha (practice at home)," Chef Heny said. In less than 10 minutes, I'm done and then I went back to my seat. =)

July 27, Saturday.
My body clock hasn't adjusted yet to my 8am class. I set my alarm at 5:30 only to turn it off when it rang and went back to bed. I only planned to nap for a few more minutes and when I opened my eyes, the clock read 6:45 AM! It's not that I'm already late but 30-minutes prep time is just not enough for me. I can leave at 7:30 and still manage to get to school by 8am but a lot of things can happen along the way... no taxi, heavy traffic in EDSA... and so I tried to move as fast as I could and left at 7:35. Yeah, I was that slow.
Taxis don't normally pass by our street so I had to take a tricycle to the main road. Been standing in front of our gate for 5 minutes when a tricycle finally stopped. Good thing, I was able to get a taxi as soon as I got to the main road. 7:44 in my time... I read my notes along the way... no traffic in EDSA and yes, I got to school on time.
We were reunited with our classmates from the cooking class as they are also taking up the Basic Cakes lesson. We discussed a bit about the fat based cakes and foam based cakes and the types of flour. We also talked about liquors and liqueurs used in baking. She showed us her homemade limoncello and taught us how to do it.

This time, we did the recipes individually. We were asked to write down our names beside our chosen recipes on the board. Chef Heny did the custard recipe.
Only 2 can work at a time in the kitchen. The rest would just have to watch and listen to Chef Heny as she guides whomever is working in the kitchen. Chef Heny conducted a workshop last Friday so we got to eat 2 of the cakes. Free merienda! Yum!

Sponge Cake
As usual, Chef Heny did the decorating of our cakes. Our classmates from the cooking class were already taught to make the icing. See how a boring looking cake can turn into a delectable one.
