Catching the Sunrise at Angkor Wat

Catching the sunrise at Angkor Wat is an absolute must do while in Siem Reap. We really made sure that we include it in our itinerary even if we only got 30 hours to spend in this town.

Everyone was determined to get up despite the early call time. It is not everyday that you can witness the sun rising up above the towers of Angkor Wat.  By 530am, armed with our cameras, we met our tuktuk drivers downstairs. We had a new tour guide that day and he's in uniform. Compared to the other tour guide on our first day, he's quite the serious type.

It was cold and dark outside with only the headlight of the tuktuk guiding our way. Halfway on our trip, we stopped on a checkpoint and presented our IDs and then we carried on.

As expected, there are already a large number of tourists which arrived earlier scattered on every part of the complex finding their own spot to view the sunrise.

We managed to get a perfect spot just before the red orange sun turned up.

While the other tourists were contented to stay in the library,

Our group moved to the pond in front of the towers where most tourists have already set up their cameras.

Need help? Oooh I miss my DSLR =(

I squeezed in between the crowd until I got to the front row where nobody can block me. The rest of my friends followed. I almost scolded a Chinese woman who kept pushing me and even used my shoulders as her tripod. So rude... tsk tsk.

Soon the sun was in its perfect position and people started clicking their cameras.

Just as we were about to leave, locals started to swarm my friends offering them books about Polpot, the Khmer Rouge, etc. They were so pushy that my friends were convinced to buy.

Our tour guide told me to tell my friends not to buy from them because they're overpriced.  Oh well, too late because they already paid for the books.

We were tempted to have a quick breakfast at the small stalls inside Angkor Wat  but decided not to as we still have one more place to visit and we're pressed for time.
